MacBook Pro 3G

Anyone who comes across this post must be wondering when Apple released a MacBook Pro with 3G capability. Well they have not, but a leaked prototype shows that Apple has considered it an option.

The prototype is of a late 2007 MacBook Pro which has shown up on an eBay auction. It has a 3G GSM card built in which should allow you to connect to either AT&T or T-Mobile in the U.S.

The device has been allegedly purchased from someone on Craigslist as a non functional MacBook Pro.  The red motherboard in the pictures which have been released indicate that the device is an Apple prototype. The SIM card board is located beneath the logic board and a 3G antenna has been built into the lid. While the 3G hardware is detected under system preferences the device is apparently unable to connect to AT&T's 3G network.

While I doubt the person who buys this would want to use it for day to day use, specially since the auction is currently standing at $6100.00 (at the time of writing) and has four days left in the auction. It is fully capable of running OS X Snow Leopard and would probably run OS X Lion as well.

Apple is sure not to leave the auction online for long if they see it, but if you do want to check it out on eBay you can do so over here. You can also head over to the source link for more pictures of the device.
